Tekla’s first-ever store was a complete renovation of a raw space within an icon of Nordic Classicism: The Egmont Building in Copenhagen. The aim was to strike a balance between the downplayed ornament of the original building and the minimalism of Tekla’s image. Given its apparent simplicity, one would be forgiven for missing the grand level of detail that went into the project. A newly-established ceiling showcases a matrix of custom-made rosettes bejewelled with era-appropriate light fixtures, all trim throughout the space was designed in-house and built from scratch, and all the doors and closets were made totally custom. Even the metal hardware was made-to-order. On the newly-poured floor, three monolithic, Judd-like fixtures in ash lend a minimal contrast to the more ornamental aesthetic of the rest of the space.
